In their first trip as president and first lady, the Trumps get a close-up view of the devastation.

The Trumps, in their first official trip as president and first lady, on Friday visited disaster-ravaged areas in western North Carolina and Los Angeles, where wildfires continue to smolder.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom, whose name was not included the initial list of public officials who would accompany the president and first lady on a tour of hard hit Pacific Palisades, greeted the Trumps in the late afternoon upon their arrival at Los Angeles International Airport.
“They are going to need a lot of federal help,” President Trump said before a gathering of reporters at the airport.
“We need your help,” Newsom said. “I have all the confidence in the world that we will work together.”
