Families in costume trick-or-treated across the South Portico of the White House Thursday evening as the president and First Lady Melania Trump greeted visitors ahead of Halloween.

The Trumps, handing out candy, stood in front of the South Portico decorated in an autumn harvest decor with orange, white, green and black pumpkins decorating the lower steps of the White House under a glowing replica of a full moon. They greeted visitors, shook hands and occasionally signed pictures and costumes. Members of the United States Air Force Strolling Strings stood on the steps playing Halloween-themed music. Thousands of children and their parents were in attendance.
Not long after the event started, Air Force One conducted a flyover of the White House capturing the attention of the president and first lady and those around them. Two minutes later, it repeated the flyover from the opposite direction.
The event also included the U.S. Postal Service providing toy mail trucks and a BE BEST post card station for children. The U.S. Department of Agriculture had a giant pumpkin photo opportunity and handed out mini pumpkins from American farmers. The U.S. Department of the Treasury handed out coloring books. The International Fresh Produce Association provided apples from Michigan, and the National Confectioners Association provided treats.
