Shaker boxes hand-crafted by Rosalynn Carter, signed memorabilia and items gifted to the former first lady will be among the items available at auction at the annual Carter Center Weekend.
The event will take place June 26-30 at the Rancho Bernardo Inn in San Diego, California. For years, the Carter Center Weekend has been a tradition, bringing together supporters dedicated to global peace and health. Guests gather to celebrate the Center’s achievements and engage in activities, including excursions, social events, and a live auction, according to a news release from The Carter Center.
Two catalogs of auction items are available to view and include items given to the Carters as well as a variety of other items from original artwork to vacation getaways.
The Shaker boxes handmade by Mrs. Carter are the same dimensions as similar boxes Russ Filbeck gifted her and feature Filbeck’s signature finish. Both boxes bear Mrs. Carter’s signature and include a two-day box-making class with Filbeck.
Other items associated with Rosalynn Carter, who died at the age of 96 in November, are available for bidding on in either the live auction or silent auction include a Middle Eastern oval silver tray gifted to the former first lady, a Turkish brass tray, and a rectangular silver plate tray. Signed memorabilia up for auction include a signed black and white photograph of Rosalynn Carter; framed inaugural memorabilia including a Washington Post print story and first-day stamp signed by both the first lady and president; and a signed photograph of the first lady and president eating together at their regularly scheduled weekly lunch in the White House.
Auction catalogs, as well as instructions for bidding, can be found here. For guests bidding in the silent auction onsite, bidding will remain open until 6:15 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time on June 29. The live auction will commence at 7:15 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time on the same day.
