Former First Lady Michelle Obama said in her first public appearance in months that the last year was “pretty rough” in front of a huge crowd Thursday during a live taping of her new video podcast “IMO” co-hosted with her brother, Craig Robinson, at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas.

“We lost our mom this year,” Obama said alongside her brother during the session. And although she did not mention President Donald Trump by name after strongly speaking out against him during the campaign, she told the crowd, according to the Austin American-Statesman, “The truth is the small power that each of us has to do something is right in front of us.
