Literacy Events to Mark Barbara Bush’s 100th Birthday

Plus this week, the FDR Presidential Library and Museum to host book discussion on first ladies.

The late former First Lady Barbara Bush would have turned 100 this June and to mark her centennial year, the foundation that bears her name boosts its mission of strengthening literacy efforts with a new reading initiative benefiting sites across the country.

In March, the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy as part of a yearlong celebration of the birth of Mrs. Bush, who was born on June 8, 1925, launched a new initiative called Literacy Explorer Kits. The kits, according to the foundation, contain materials needed to host family literacy events—including customized guides and parent materials for the children’s books Little Blue Truck, The Day You Begin, and First Ladies Make History. The kits also include materials that families can take home to support them in continuing to learn and play together.
