Jill Biden Is Welcomed to a Home Away From Home

The first lady visits ancestral hometown of Gesso, Italy.

A crowd gathered outside in the town square of the small Sicilian village of Gesso, Italy, Wednesday, to welcome an iconic descendant of their own—First Lady Dr. Jill Biden.

The welcome was warm with a large banner suspended from a rustic balcony reading, “We love you” and “You will always have a home here!” Other signs held in the crowd displayed the American and Italian flags intertwined. All of this ahead of the anticipated visit by Dr. Biden to the mountaintop village located on the eastern end of Sicily that is home to about 500 people. This was the first day of her last overseas tour as first lady.
