First Lady Begins Campaigning for Harris in Five-state Swing
Jill Biden to make two stops in Arizona today.
First Lady Dr. Jill Biden arrives in Yuma, Arizona today beginning a five-state swing campaigning for Vice President Kamala Harris with less than 25 days remaining until election day.
The first lady will arrive in Yuma this afternoon for a campaign event and then travel to Phoenix on Saturday, according to the White House, just as early voting has started in the state ahead of Election Day on Nov. 5.
Her arrival comes a day after Harris held a rally in Phoenix Thursday.
A source familiar with the campaign told East Wing Magazine that in addition to continuing teaching at Northern Virginia Community College, the first lady would “of course” be on the campaign trail for Harris this fall.
The last time the first lady was in Arizona, an election battleground state, was for a “Seniors for Biden-Harris” event in June before her husband, President Joe Biden decided not to run for reelection.
Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff on Tuesday was also in Arizona and attended a Republicans for Harris event in Mesa, a fundraising event in Paradise Valley, and at South Mountain Community Center in Phoenix.
On Sunday, the first lady will travel to Nevada followed by stops in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania for political events through Tuesday.

Melania Really Doesn’t Care
Oct. 10, 2024 — Book Review: First ladies, by the cursed nature of the role, are supposed to humanize and soften the jagged, ugly edge of power. The job is to be maternal, quietly decorative, fascinating but not frivolous, busy but not bold. In some ways, Melania Trump—elegant, enigmatic, and apparently unambitious—arrived in Washington better suited to the office than any other presidential spouse in recent memory. In reality, she ended up feeling like a void—a literal absence from the White House for the first months of Donald Trump’s presidency—that left so much room for projection. Read more

Highs and Lows From Melania Trump’s Baffling Book
Oct. 10, 2024 — Book Review: The former First Lady’s memoir is full of unresolved contradictions. In her first promotional video, she describes writing the book as “deeply personal,” yet much of it feels generic. She says she felt a responsibility to “clarify the facts,” but a lot of important information is missing. The book dropped a month before Election Day but doesn’t seem aimed at helping or sabotaging Donald Trump’s reelection campaign. Melania tells too much to be a low-effort cash grab but too little to give real insight into this enigmatic White House occupant. Read more
